Saurashtra Shooters and Saurashtra Samurais geared up for the final match at HSPL 2020
Exercising regularly or practising some sport leads to one becoming more creative and intellectual. It also helps relax the mind and eliminate any form of stress. At the Mehta Group, the health and safety of our stakeholders within and outside the workplace holds great importance. Thus, we sponsor various sports competitions across Gujarat.
The Hathi Sidhee Premier League (HSPL) 2020 cricket tournament was conducted this year too, for our esteemed dealers, with the aim of enhancing team spirit within the organisation and network. It all began with pre-match fixtures scheduled and organised at major cities under the supervision of the respective regional heads and officials, from which the best playing squad of 15 members was selected.
From each region, one team was formed. The five teams who participated were Saurashtra Samurais (Bhavnagar), Saurashtra Shooters (Junagadh), Rajkot Rockets (Rajkot), Ahmedabad Attackers (Central Gujarat) and Greater Gujarat Gladiators (Greater Gujarat). All the teams had their respective names and logos. The match was organized on February 15, 2020 at our cricket ground at SCL Ranavav in the presence of Mr. Narendra Singh – Director (Works) SCL and Mr. Randhir Singh – Director (Marketing & Sales). The players and their teams played with enthusiasm and had the audience sitting at the edge of their seats with their stupendous performances. Finale lasted for the entire day. It began in the morning with the National Anthem and continued until late night, under the lights.
Saurashtra Shooters won the final match against the runner-up team of Saurashtra Samurai. The winning and runner-up teams were awarded with the Champions trophy and Runner-Up trophy, respectively, apart from medals, certificates and gifts to each player. We also presented awards, gifts and certificates to the Best Fielder, Best Bowler and Best Batsman, Man of the Match for all matches and Player of the Series. The event was a massive success and an example of the thriving sportsman spirit within the organisation.
For several years, we have associated ourselves with the event of ‘Swimathon’ as its main sponsor in our strong market in Porbandar. Swimming is an excellent way to work the entire body and the cardiovascular system. An hour of swimming burns almost as many calories as running, without all the impact on the bones and joints. To spread awareness of the benefits of swimming among the youth, we sponsored the event along with the Shree Ram Sea Swimming Club – an NGO.
The event was organised in various categories/age groups. Various paralympic swimmers also participated in the Swimathon event. With participation of more than 450 participants coming from far off places. A senior official from our Company was invited during the prize distribution along with the dignitaries. Our participation in such an event, that promotes health and sports, and adds to our brand image, not only in Porbandar city, but also catches the attention of various other key institutes participating in the event, such as The Police Department, Coast Guard, Porbandar Municipal Corporation, key dignitaries besides getting media coverage.
In November 2019, we organised two major sports events – the Porbandar Half Marathon and the staff cricket match.
On the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, we co-sponsored the Porbandar Half Marathon, which was jointly organised by the Shree Ram Sea Swimming Club and Suraksha Setu Society Porbandar (Police Welfare Society). Based on the theme ‘Clean India – Fit India’, the objective of the event was to promote health awareness and personal fitness. About 3,500 participants, ranging from 6 to 85 years of age, took part in the event. The participants also included members from the Porbandar Police Force, the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard. Depending on the age of the participants and the distance, the event had several categories, and winners from each category were awarded with fanfare. We cosponsored the event and our brand logos were visible across the event.
