Cooling Drinks for the Summer

Summers! Which also means hot & sweaty days. A time when mangoes and pickles are welcomed in our houses. To escape the heat, the most natural thing is to drink water (cold, from the fridge) but some different varieties are always a delight. The concept of keeping our body cool in summers has been passed on to us through generations, in the form of reminders to drink water or the summer ‘staples’ in every household.

So, here is our list of summer cooling drinks that keeps you, your gut and your tongue, everyone happy!
These are the kind of drinks that keeps your body cool while adding to the overall wellness.

1. Buttermilk (Chhaas)
An all time staple, this curd-based drink is excellent for the gut and hence the body. Its fermentation and microbial levels are great for the summers. Considered great for digestion, it is consumed differently across the country.

2. Coconut Water
Coconut water is a natural electrolyte to keep you energised. This clear fluid is high in potassium and its antimicrobial properties keeps the body cool in hot summers. That is a good enough reason to grab one of them.

3. Aam Panna
Everyone’s favourite! Aam Panna is made of the summer king of fruits, Mangoes. Mango pulp is squished and blended with some cumin and mint leaves. The drink is not only a refreshing one, but it also keeps you energised in the heated days.

4. Cucumber Lemonade
Lemon and cucumber, two of the most easily available ingredients in summer, are only needed to become your favourite thirst quencher. A cooling lemonade with a pinch of sugar and salt will take care of your body in the summer heat.

5. Sugarcane Juice
The juice is crushed out of the long sweet sugarcane, topped with a tinge of lemon or mint leaves. Full of anti-oxidants, the sugarcane juice is great for the liver and kidney health.
It is also a great digestive, making it a must for your summers.

6. Watermelon Juice
Composed of 75% water, watermelon juice is great for hydration as it contains fair amounts of potassium and amino acids. The watermelon juice boosts the energy levels, restores electrolytes and reduces body fat.
